Salima has a particular interest in representing vulnerable or marginalised people, and regularly acts on behalf of children and young people, asylum seekers and others subject to immigration control, victims of human trafficking, transgender and intersex people and those with criminal convictions.
Salima has challenged the lawfulness of immigration detention for people with health conditions and has also acted in compensation claims for ex-detainees against the Home Office. Salima acts in relation to public law and information law issues arising in the criminal justice context, such as challenging cautions, harassment warning notices and disclosure on DBS certificates. Salima also has expertise in animal welfare law, having acted in the first judicial review to challenge the decision of a local authority to grant a dog breeding licence to a puppy farm.
