Graeme is Head of Clyde & Co.'s Scottish Healthcare practice, specialising in clinical negligence and healthcare and education regulatory. Graeme acts extensively for healthcare professionals, particularly doctors and dentists, dealing with medical malpractice claims of the highest value and complexity for indemnifiers and insurers. He advises on claims against associated healthcare professions including optometrists, pharmacists and beauticians. His practice covers fatal accident inquiries and public inquiries.
Graeme represents professionals before their regulators, including the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service and the General Dental Council. He acts for other professionals, including for teachers appearing in the GTCS, and is a legal adviser to the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries disciplinary tribunal panels. He undertakes judicial reviews arising from healthcare disputes, including appeals against MPTS and GDC determinations. As a solicitor advocate Graeme regularly undertakes appearance work personally.
Graeme leads the Scottish historic abuse practice. He acts for many major insurers and directly for local authorities and third sector organisations, both in claims and before the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry. His team has pioneered the handling of such claims following the removal of limitation defences.
