Jen is a Partner in our social housing property team. She acts mainly for national and regional Registered Providers dealing with all aspects of property work specialising in development, acquisition and securitisation work.

Jen is a pragmatic and commercial lawyer, with extensive experience of leading a multi-disciplinary team of lawyers, qualified plans technicians and support staff to provide a “one stop shop” of services to the social housing sector, from advising on head of terms for a site acquisition, site assembly, due diligence and contract negotiation, through to setting up the site for plot disposals.

Jen has over 20 years’ experience of acting for national and regional Registered Providers, public sector clients including Local Authorities, and NHS Trusts and for non-public sector clients including housebuilders, charities and residential investment clients.

She specialises in the acquisition and development of sites for self-build, and sites/plots from developers through a variety of structures, including turnkey, golden brick and back to back contractor led-schemes. She advises on the viability of development sites for residential and mixed use and has dealt with numerous complex site assemblies and associated land issues. Her work includes negotiation of conditional contracts and development agreements, advising on affordable housing planning obligations, nominations agreements, release of minerals rights, joint ventures, large scale portfolio acquisitions, disposals and securitisations, site set-ups, stock swaps, landlord and tenant matters, asset management and projects.

Jen has a thorough knowledge of the regulatory requirements required to properly advise Registered Providers. Her work in securitisations means she is aware of the issues that are of concern to funders of affordable housing stock and those matters which could affect the valuation of residential and commercial properties.

Beth has considerable deal experience, is well known in the Midlands corporate finance market and advises on a wide range of transactional and non-transactional corporate matters.

A broad practice encompassing energy, defence and transport infrastructure, real estate, outsourcing, and dispute resolution. Clients include Affinity Water, Abellio Group, Babcock Group, RBS, HSBC, The YTL Group and The National Trust. Notable projects include advising on the development of a new nuclear power plant, nuclear fuel dry store, legacy nuclear waste treatment facility, new rail depot, framework arrangements for water network and rail infrastructure, the development of a new luxury hotel and spa and associated developments for nuclear powered submarines.

David is Chair of the Global Projects Energy Natural Resources and Infrastructure board and specialises in energy and infrastructure-related work acting for sponsors, funders and the public sector. David is recognised as a leading market practitioner. He has advised on a broad range of deals ranging from the privatisation of the Green Investment Bank (now Green Investment Group, involving a range of offshore wind projects) to the development financing of projects such as roads, hospitals and satellites. David is also heavily involved in the growth of the firm’s decarbonisation business as the world transitions to net zero.

Stewart (who heads the Charles Russell Speechlys Fraud and Investigations Group) specialises in complex and high value international disputes (both in Court and Arbitral forums) and investigations, usually involving allegations across the spectrum of dishonesty including fraud, dishonesty and corruption, with particular emphasis on Financial Services and Energy and Natural Resources. As the vast majority of Stewart's cases involve allegations of fraud, dishonesty and corruption, key legal issues arising include conflicts of law, interim (injunctive) remedies to prevent dissipation of assets and/or preservation of evidence, asset recovery and tracing, as well as contentious insolvency scenarios and investigations.

Stewart’s most recent cases include acting successfully for the liquidators of six defendant companies in the Cayman Islands’ longest-ever trial - 129 days - about one of the world’s largest-ever Ponzi schemes – US$330 billion. Stewart also led a team successfully acting for one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical wholesalers in relation to a complex high-value letter of credit fraud perpetrated on it by a fraudster, and which involved related proceedings in a number of jurisdictions in Europe, the Caribbean and the Pacific. He also has a great deal of experience in advising corporates in relation to product mis-selling within the financial services sector.

Stewart is admitted to practise in England and Wales and has limited admission in the Cayman Islands (in relation to the AHAB vs SAAD litigation). He is also a member of the Fraud Lawyers Association.
