Michael is an experienced and specialist advocate with a strong track record of dealing with serious and high-profile cases. Highly regarded for his trial advocacy, Michael enjoys an impressive record in winning jury trials that he prepares meticulously.
His advocacy experience encompasses a wide range of cases including serious fraud, rape, serious and high-level drug supply, and murder. He has appeared against Queens Counsel and successfully appeared as an advocate in the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division).
He also provides specialist assistance in challenging Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) investigations and prosecutions. He has represented a number of landlords relating to alleged breaches of both the licensing regime and the Management of Houses in Multiple Occupation (England) Regulations 2006.
He set up Freemans crime department and has continued to lead/co-lead since, ensuring the team maintains a reputation for high-quality work.
He provides legal training to senior lawyers and has appeared as a guest university lecturer. He is also an Independent Funding Adjudicator, appointed following a recommendation by an Advisory Assessment Panel to the Lord Chancellor.
