Practice Areas

Sophie is a Partner in our Property Department and is rated highly by her clients for her technical ability combined with a commercial approach.

Sophie works with some of the major development businesses across the region in both the residential and commercial property sectors, developing a particular specialism in housebuilder and environmental work.

She has acted for national and regional housebuilders in connection with complicated site acquisitions and disposals for residential and mixed use developments. These have involved a range of complex structure; including options, building leases, promotion agreements, deferred payments and overage.

Sophie is also experienced in acting for developers in joint venture arrangements, either with other developers or with landowners, public sector organisations or housing associations. She works closely with her clients from the initial stages, including advising on heads of terms and formal tenders, through to the conclusion of the transaction and, in the case of acquisitions, preparing for the sale of plots. This ensures she has a real understanding of each client’s business.

Transactions on which she has worked include:

The purchase of a 200-unit residential development site from the Homes and Communities Agency, which also involved a collaboration with a second developer responsible for redeveloping the adjoining listed building.

An option to purchase of land for a mixed use development scheme including housing, retail and medical development. This involved complicated negotiations regarding the payment terms and arrangements for delivery of infrastructure works.

The complex site assembly and then sale of land intended for use for a large scale social housing scheme.

The purchase of a 600-unit residential development site from an international chemical group requiring involved negotiations regarding the transfer of environmental liability and the associated warranties and indemnities.
