Career
Norman has particular expertise in the aviation and commercial real estate sectors.
He advises lenders, lessors, investment funds and airlines on all aspects of aviation finance. He has particular expertise advising on the acquisition and financing of portfolios of aircraft, joint ventures, solvent and insolvent restructurings, aircraft repossession and enforcement. Norman has assisted his clients on numerous debt financings, aircraft acquisitions and leasing transactions over the past 20 years. During the last 24 months, he has advised on a significant number of complex aircraft loan and lease workouts; airline restructurings and debt and asset recoveries from distressed and insolvent debtors.
He also advises investment funds and asset managers on the structuring and implementation of joint ventures in the commercial real estate space together with associated asset and property management arrangements and real estate financing matters.
Norman is described by his clients as being technically exceptional and highly commercial. He trained and qualified in London with the firm now known as Hogan Lovells before joining US firm Paul Hastings in 2006 where he was made a partner in 2009. Norman founded the boutique aviation law firm, REN Legal, in 2010 which was acquired by Clyde & Co in 2021.
Norman is admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales and is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society. He is also an active member of the International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading and The Aviation Club of the UK.
His keen interest in aviation is reflected in his personal life where he flies regularly holding EASA and FAA private pilot licenses and supports a number of WW2 aircraft restoration projects and aviation related charities.
