Michael is a litigation partner in Reed Smith's Entertainment and Media Industry Group. He focuses on intellectual property and media law and in public and regulatory law. He also advises on crisis scenarios, conflict and potential conflict situations.

Michael’s practice focuses on the advertising, aviation, insurance, leisure and travel sectors.

He has considerable experience of multi-jurisdictional disputes and is well used to the role of lead lawyer for clients in countries other than England.

Michael has been an expert witness on the English law of trade secrets in U.S. federal proceedings and on the English law of passing off in state proceedings in California.

His experience includes trademark portfolios, comparative advertising, website blocking, copyright tribunal litigation, copyright disputes, trade secrets, multi-jurisdictional competition litigation, and high-profile music litigation concerning labels, artists and their rights.

Michael is also part of the firm’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) practice and he leads Reed Smith’s Responsible Business programme in Europe and the Middle East.

He is a regular industry commentator, often giving his views on high-profile cases, and is regularly interviewed by BBC News and Reuters.
