Innes is one of Scotland's most experienced and well known employment lawyers having specialised in employment law for nearly 25 years. He heads up Morton Fraser MacRoberts' Employment Team and is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in employment law. Innes is also a Chartered Member of the CIPD.

Innes advises employers on a wide range of employment issues including unfair dismissal, whistleblowing, redundancy, severance arrangements, workplace discrimination and TUPE. Innes also works closely with MFMac’s corporate team in relation to the employment law implications of business acquisitions and disposals.

Innes is also one of the "go to" employment lawyers for senior executive departures in Scotland. Over the years, Innes has advised senior executives in a wide variety of circumstances including departures from most of the major banks as well as other financial institutions and many other household name organisations.

Innes lectures at the University of Edinburgh and is also a regular conference speaker and chair.
