Herbert has a focus on AI and data ethics, with current research interests in online harms, algorithmic bias, and age appropriate design. Herbert advises on the creation of AI/data governance and ethics frameworks for global organisations. He also regularly engages with industry, policy and regulatory bodies on new data and AI regulation.

He is a Member of the EU AI Alliance, the European Commission's forum for AI development and policy discussions, and techUK. He has also published work on cross-border investigations in Cyber Security Practitioner.
