Practice Areas

Ben acts exclusively for claimants who have suffered life-changing injuries of the utmost severity, including neuro-trauma, fatalities, brain injuries, amputations, spinal cord injuries, disfiguring burns and other severe personal injuries.

Recommended as a leading lawyer in the fields of both personal injury law and clinical negligence in the Legal 500 independent client directory, Ben is also a band one (top-ranked) leading individual in Chambers & Partners, the other key legal directory.

Ben has a special interest in early rehabilitation and adapted accommodation issues for the seriously injured, particularly those with severe brain injuries, paraplegia or tetraplegia, and on behalf of his clients pursues insurers for initial compensation payments from the outset to establish effective care and therapy regimes, and to secure appropriate housing.

He regularly contributes to the national media on issues concerning health and safety, corporate or gross negligence manslaughter, and the calculation of compensation awards for catastrophic injuries. He has written for The Times, various legal journals, and appeared on the BBC. In recent years he has been quoted in a range of diverse publications including the Evening Standard, Mail, The Times, Mirror and the New York Post, along with legal publications such as Legal Futures, the Law Society Gazette and the Solicitors Journal.

Ben is an accredited Fellow of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL). Through APIL he has been a contributor to working parties on reform of the Fatal Accidents Act 1976, Lord Briggs’ proposals for the introduction of online courts, reforms to the calculation of accommodation claims in catastrophic injury cases, and new sentencing guidelines for gross negligence manslaughter.

Ben is accredited by APIL as an advanced specialist in the fields of brain injury and fatal accidents and is an assessor for APIL’s accreditation schemes in these specialisms. For ten years he was also Secretary of APIL’s National Damages Special Interest Group.

Ben has an approachable and down-to-earth manner and is always happy to discuss and explain the law to individuals who are unsure about their right to compensation, either in person or over the telephone.
