Career

Andrew is a senior member of the Clyde & Co catastrophic injury and large loss team which contains more than 200 lawyers. He has been ranked as a leading/star individual by Chambers for many years. He is a member of the serious injury guide working group as well as the FOIL group that focuses on CILL. He leads a number of the firm’s key client accounts in terms of the large loss and catastrophic injury work as well as having overall responsibility for two key accounts. He specialises in defending personal injury claims of the utmost severity, with experience of all major injury types, including brain and spinal injury, amputations and fatal accidents and has the ability to form collaborative relationships with claimants and their solicitors, insurer’s customers, experts and counsel.

His extensive case portfolio includes serious brain injury cases (including PVS and minimal awareness), tetra and paraplegic cases, multiple limb loss cases and fatal accidents. Andrew is a leading name in the catastrophic injury world and known for innovative approaches to resolving claims. He clearly demonstrates his capability and value to his clients, who describe him as ‘extremely approachable’ with ‘terrific judgment’ and ‘technically gifted’.

He has been at the forefront of identifying and agreeing best practice with some of the leading claimant firms to support swifter resolution of catastrophic injury claims. This year he has been successful in three High Court trials as well as the Court of Appeal in Barrow v Merrett [2021] EWHC 792 (QB). He has chaired and co-presented a number of well-attended events on topics such as the discount rate and claims inflation in the large loss and catastrophic injury world. He has written published articles on the impact of COVID-19 as well as client briefings on emerging risks. He is regularly sought out by the press for commentary on important issues.
